Nancy Pelosi And Steny Hoyer Come Out Against First Amendment Rights

Just when I thought that the Democrats couldn’t do or say anything more stupid or hypocritical than what they’ve already done or said, Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer had to open their mouths and go and prove me wrong.

First, let’s go back a few years and remember what other Dems have said about voicing opposition to Washington D.C. In 2003, Hillary Clinton (D-NY) proclaimed the following:

Dissent is patriotic!

Now, I was not aware that Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) were in disagreement with then Sen. Clinton’s sentiments. Neither one made the slightest peep about it when Clinton made her statement. (BTW, this is the same Nancy Pelosi who made the false accusation that there were swastikas at the town hall events.)

But today, when Joe and Jane Average American are protesting several facets of HR3200, the socialized medicine bill, dissent, in their eyes, has become “un-American.”

You’ll notice that niether Pelosi nor Hoyer ever mentioned any of this. In their USA Today column, they simply repeated the same old tired talking points that have been proven to be false over the past eight months.

Second, the opposing views are not being drowned out. The American people are tired of hearing the same old lies about health care over and over and over again. When they hear those same old tired lies, they become angry and begin shouting back.

We know what it will cost and that it won’t be cheaper. It will be more expensive as the CBO has shown us.

We know that 47 million people are not covered with health insurance. But we also know that at least a third of those are illegal aliens, most of the rest are people that can afford health insurance but choose not to buy it and the rest have access to Medicare.

We know that the quality of health care will go down as it has in every other country that has adopted socialized medicine.

When we hear lies, we get mad.

And instead of admitting the facts, Pelosi and Hoyer try to hide them by calling those who would expose the facts “un-American.”

I don’t see how any Democrat could ever point with pride towards these two hypocrites and say, “They are our leaders!”.

Obama’s SEIU Thugs Attack A Black Conservative

Okay, this should show exactly how the Dems in Congress are nothing but thieving liars. For the past week, Dems like Barbara Boxer, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have been lying to the press about angry mobs, violent protesters and swastikas.

The truth is, what we have been seeing is a grassroots movement in which people were rightfully asking their Congressional delegations if they’ve read what’s in HR3200 (the socialized medicine bill), whether the government that let Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security go broke can run a socialized medicine system, and whether or not Congress will limit its own health care plan choices to only that which is provided to Joe and Jane Average American under this bill.

For their efforts at trying to communicate their concerns to Congress, the Democrats have labeled the American people “radical” and leveled false charges against them.

Well, the violent angry mobs didn’t start until the Dems unleashed the SEIU thugs against Joe and Jane Average American. In a page right out of the Nazi Brown-Shirt playbook, Dems from the White House and Congress called on their union thugs to go after the peaceful opponents of Obamacare.

Those of us on the right want answers from Congress and we want our concerns to be heard. Those on the left want to stifle the debate, even if it means visiting violence on people exercising their First Amendment rights.

Look for more violence from left-wing street agitators like SEIU and ACORN as this debate heats up. Despite Obama’s claim that he is some sort of “uniter,” he will not ever condemn the violent Nazi-style tactics of his leftist minions.

Pelosi Throws More Insults At The American People

I’d like to see the videos that Nancy Pelosi was watching of Joe and Jane Average American standing up and asking legitimate questions about HR3200, the socialized medicine bill. Her claim is that those people were “carrying swastikas.” I’ve looked at the pictures and seen the videos but never once saw a single piece of Nazi symbology. Her claim is bogus and only meant to stir up the emotions of those who are gullible and naive enough to believe her.

This is yet another example to show exactly how disrespectful Pelosi, Reid, Obama and the Democrats in general are of the American people. There were no swastikas or anything like that at any of the town hall meetings where average Americans voiced legitimate concerns to their Congressional delegations. But, Pelosi felt she had the right to make up such a lie and the leftists in Old Media felt the need to spread what they must have certainly known was a lie.

The bigger the insults get and the larger the lies become, you can be sure it is because the Dems are getting more and more desperate to pass a bill the contents of which they would have preferred to keep secret.

Blue States (Dems) To Pay Less In Carbon Tax Than Red States (Republican)

Now the truth comes out about why Obama and the Dems are so hot to pass this idiotic cap-and-trade carbon tax proposal. It has nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with political payoffs.

The Waxman/Markey Cap and Trade bill makes states like Kentucky, that produce energy through their rich coal resources, into the indentured servants of states like California and New York, who import that energy for their use. Here’s how it works. The bill, as it is currently structured, would impose massive fines on states that produce and export so called “dirty energy”. There would be a huge additional cost to the consumers in those states in order to carry this burden. Most conservative estimates put the additional cost to the average consumer in the Commonwealth at around $1700 per household per year. Meanwhile, states like California and New York actually pollute much more heavily than Kentucky does. They have a higher population, many more industries and many more cars on the highway. They import their energy however, so they will not be subject to the same fine structure that Kentucky and other coal producing states will be. In effect, that means we’ll be paying for the lifestyle and energy consumption of states that pollute much worse than we do.

If this were truly about the environment, states like California and New York would be more than willing to step up to the plate and pay their fair share, or even more than their fair share if their belief was honestly sincere.

But, they aren’t doing so and are more than happy to have states like Kentucky and other Red states carry the burden.

Does anyone stand to gain from this massive energy tax that is being imposed on us? Yes. Read on:

As if this weren’t enough, many on the left side of the political isle stand to make a massive profit off of the lie of manmade global warming. Al Gore’s carbon trade hedge fund investments alone stand to net him somewhere around one billion dollars. Not bad for the prophet of an inconvenient truth who lives in a mansion that uses 21 times the energy of the average American. Many other lobbyists and elected officials in Washington stand to score a major windfall off of this policy as well. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is betting a large portion of her already massive fortune on the passage of this bill. The list of Washington insiders who are heavily invested in companies that stand to make big cash from government subsidies under the cap and trade scheme is endless and continues to grow.

Again, if they believed that this were truly about the environment, they would give up the money and their lavish lifestyles and live like they are demanding Joe and Jane Average American live.

Got this in an email. One thing about this CSM (Command Sergeant Major), he does not waste time getting to the point! This essay has been around for a long while, but the points made are still extremely valid.

John Boehner: Pelosi Should Show Proof Or Apologize

Remember during the Valerie Plame non-scandal when the Dems thought that the CIA was the best thing since sliced bread? Well, it looks like the CIA is back in the Dem dog-house. How does a government agency gain and then fall out of favor so quickly? Well, when dealing with liberals Dems like Nancy Pelosi, it is all about political advantage. During the Plame case, it was politically advantageous to embrace the CIA. Now, the politcal wind in Washington D.C. is such that the CIA is to be shunned.

But, people who are intelligent and clear thinking can see what is really going on here. Pelosi told some rather large untruths and falsehoods about what the CIA breifed her on concerning enhanced interrogation techniques (EIT) including waterboarding, the technique that yielded information which in turn may have saved thousands of American lives.

And now, she is being called on those lies. According to CNN:

A key Republican leader demanded Sunday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi produce evidence to back up her assertion that she was misled by the CIA on the use of so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques.” … “Lying to the Congress of the United States is a crime,” House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “If the speaker is accusing the CIA and other intelligence officials of lying or misleading the Congress, then she should come forward with evidence and turn that over to the Justice Department so they be prosecuted. And if that’s not the case, I think she ought to apologize to our intelligence professionals around the world.”

It has already been established that Pelosi and some of her aides knew exactly what was going on. But, none of them ever spoke out against these EITs back in 2002 and 2003. No, instead they waited seven years for the issue to become politcally favorable for them.

It should also be noted that Jane Harmon (D-CA) has not to come to Nancy Pelosi’s defense. Harmon did protest the use of waterboarding back in 2003.

On Thursday, Pelosi said the briefing she received from the CIA was incomplete and inaccurate, and she called on the agency to release a full transcript of the briefing. She also accused Republicans of jumping on reports of the briefings to cause a distraction. The speaker’s comments prompted CIA Director Leon Panetta to stand up for the agency on Friday and challenge Pelosi on her assertion that the CIA had misled her. “There is a long tradition in Washington of making political hay out of our business. It predates my service with this great institution, and it will be around long after I’m gone. But the political debates about interrogation reached a new decibel level yesterday when the CIA was accused of misleading Congress.” Panetta said in a letter to agency employees.

When faced with such a scathing backlash from the CIA, Pelosi simply switched her criticism from the CIA to the Bush Administration.

Cleary, Pelosi is in a tail-spin and can no longer hide the fact that she has been lying all along. Now that so many people have called her on her lies, she is getting desperate to save whatever is left of her face.

And this little tidbit shows how deeply into the lie Pelosi is willing to go:

Pelosi wants the classified notes of her 2002 briefing on waterboarding declassified because, she has said, they will show that she wasn’t told that harsh techniques such as waterboarding were being used. The top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee said he has read the notes from Pelosi’s disputed 2002 briefing and insists to CNN that she’s wrong. “The record shows Speaker Pelosi was briefed that the techniques were used on Abu Zubaydah,” Sen. Kit Bond, R-Missouri, said in a written statement. That appears to back up CIA records declassified last week, which say that on September 4, 2002, Pelosi and Republican Rep. Porter Goss of Florida were briefed on enhanced interrogation techniques.

My personal view? If it is a choice between saving thousands of American lives or worrying about the comfort level of one worthless, waste of flesh terrorist, then I choose saving American lives. It seems as though the average Democrat is more concerned for the terrorist.

Pelosi should not only apologize, but she should at the very least step down as Speaker of the House for lying to the American people. I understand that Democrats would normally call for a politician to step down when caught lying. I wonder if they would apply that same standard to one of their own.

Pelosi Lied About Not Being Briefed On Waterboarding

Man! If it isn’t lying on their taxes, the Dems will find other things to lie about.

The latest lie comes from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Although she claims she never knew about the enhanced interrogation technique known as waterboarding, newly released CIA documents now show she did indeed know.

Oh, and if you are one of those who keep repeating that this is some sort of right-wing conspiracy, check out the names of the sources first.

From the New York Times:

The new chart of briefings, prepared by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, was the first full listing of briefings to members of Congress and their aides. It appears to call into question the longstanding assertion of Speaker Nancy Pelosi that she was never told that waterboarding and other methods were actually used, only that the Central Intelligence Agency believed they were legal and could be used. … The chart shows that in addition to Ms. Pelosi, Democrats briefed on the methods included former Senator Bob Graham of Florida in 2002 and Senator John D. Rockefeller IV of West Virginia and Representative Jane Harman of California in 2003.

And the Washington Post has this:

A top aide to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attended a CIA briefing in early 2003 in which it was made clear that waterboarding and other harsh techniques were being used in the interrogation of an alleged al-Qaeda operative, according to documents the CIA released to Congress on Thursday. Pelosi has insisted that she was not directly briefed by Bush administration officials that the practice was being actively employed. But Michael Sheehy, a top Pelosi aide, was present for a classified briefing that included Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), then the ranking minority member of the House intelligence committee, at which agency officials discussed the use of waterboarding on terrorism suspect Abu Zubaida.

Clearly, despite Pelosi’s attempt at spinning this situation, she knew about waterboarding at least 6 years ago and most likely, 8 years ago. She only came out against the technique when it became politically advantageous to do so.

But, I guess you should expect that from a Democrat. Political advancement above the security of the American people. That seems to be their new credo.

Time For Americans To Say “NO!”

Laura Hollis began her most recent column with a quote from Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. Would you like to read it? Here it is:

I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win – and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent. I saw that I could put an end to your outrages by pronouncing a single word in my mind … The word [is] ‘No.’” – Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

Why is this so significant? Because we are on our way to a disaster known as socialism, against our wills apprently. And it is looking like the only way we can forstall this transition is to say “No.”

How hard is it to say “No?” Pretty hard for most people. Mostly for two reasons: 1) they are not fully informed about what is being done in their name and 2) they rely on the old saying “to get along you have to go along.” Wrong. Going along means simply that you have become a sheep and are willing to be led around by the nose, even if it means going in a direction that you don’t want to go.

The current economic situation underscores my point. The American taxpayer did not cause any of the current conditions. Government did beginning with the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act. But, the taxpayer is being made to pay for it with things like the recent $1.3 trillion pork-spending package that more than doubled our deficit. And Obama and his socialist allies in Congress are betting on the “go along to get along” mentality to get away with squandering our children’s and grandchildren’s futures without being called to account on it.

This is where we say “No!”

We are having hundreds of billions of our hard-earned tax dollars taken from us and given to the same organizations that got us in this mess, under the advice and counsel of the same irresponsible and deceitful politicians like Barney Frank and others who ignored warnings about the bad lending practices in the first place. And those same politicians now see fit to lecture us about patriotism and fiscal responsibility? This is a travesty so appalling that it should be prompting protests in the streets. As hardworking, tax-paying Americans have watched this Obamadrama play out, they have become increasingly distressed, saying, “But what do we do?” We start saying NO. Obama’s campaign mantra was “Yes, we can.” Here’s the new mantra for the American taxpayer: “No, we won’t.”

And we keep saying “No” right up to the 2010 elections and beyond. We let our government know that we will not go quietly into the night and we will not allow them to destory the American Dream with socialist policies that have failed every single time they were implemented. They failed in the former Soniet Union, they failed in Eastern Europe, they failed in Western Europe and they will fail here too. History is replete with such lessons and we, the people, must remind the government of such lessons by saying “No.”

We also need to let the elitists in Congress know that we see through their hypocrisy:

Where’s the “shared sacrifice” if you’re cutting back to make your mortgage payment, and the government hits you up to pay some stranger’s mortgage as well? And it’s hard to call for belt-tightening when Congress clamors to sign the bill within hours of receiving it so that Nancy Pelosi can jet off to Rome for a private audience with the Pope, and President Obama can ride a taxpayer-funded 747 back to Chicago to take Michelle out for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner. (What, there aren’t any restaurants in D.C.?)

You see, the elistes like Obama and Pelosi believe that they are entitled to whatever they want and we, the plebian class, must pay for it, even if it means taking resources away from our own families.

But, we shouldn’t have to take it, and we won’t.

You take a page out of the civil rights playbook. Protest. Picket. Storm your representatives’ offices. Use the legal system. Go straight to your county or federal courthouse and file for a temporary restraining order, and then a permanent injunction against the enforcement of the law or regulation. If you are fined, do not pay it. Make the government defend civil litigation in every city and every state across the country. The government cannot possibly do this, anymore than it can possibly shut down every single Christian, conservative, right-wing, Republican or Libertarian show and/or station in the country. More to the point, they won’t want the country to see them try. If you think Santelli’s rant generated public outrage, imagine how the public would react to footage of government agents coming into your studio or station and forcing you to shut down. Imagine that happening all over the country. When blacks marched peacefully through the streets of the south in the 1960s, and they had the water hoses turned on them, and attack dogs unleashed on them, the rest of America saw those governments for what they were. This government is depending upon our complicity in its takeover. Not anymore. This time, we are saying, “No.”

Pope Benedict XVI Reveals Nancy Pelosi’s Dishonesty With One Press Release

George Weigel asks: “Were they at the same meeting?” After reading the competing press releases, I wondered that myself. Nancy Pelosi travelled to Rome after voting to load a huge debt on our children and grandchildren and visited with Holy Father. Both Pelosi and Benedict XVI released statements about the meeting, but you would never guess that both releases were referring to the same get-together.

First, Holy Father’s press release:

Following the General Audience, the Holy Father briefly greeted Mrs. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, together with her entourage. His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception until natural death, which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists, and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of development.

The Holy See of Rome has always been a loggerheads with the Democrats over their support for abortion and their support of abortion groups that have blatently anti-Catholic agendas. So, this press release does not surpise me and, in fact, I welcome it. I’m glad to see that there are still people in this world who are willing to stand up to pro-abortionists like Pelosi and say what needs to be said.

Now, here is Pelosi’s version:

It is with great joy that my husband, Paul, and I met with His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, today. In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the Church’s leadership in fighting poverty, hunger, and global warming, as well as the Holy Father’s dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel. I was proud to show His Holiness a photograph of my family’s papal visit in the 1950s, as well as a recent picture of our children and grandchildren.

You’ll notice that Pelosi took the opportunity to make politcal hay out of issues that the Dems typically make their money off of. But she made no mention of the issues that Holy Father made public about this meeting.

Clearly, Pelosi was making this trip, not to re-affirm herself as a Catholic (she is a Catholic in name only and routinely leads Democrat assaults against the Catholic Church), but more to try and cover up her embarrassment from when she and Joe Biden misrepresented Catholic Church doctrine.

Planned Parenthood CEO Makes $1 Million Per Year

Our socialist president and his socialist allies in Congress have adopted the Marxist policiy of limiting how much money the CEOs of banks that receive Federal money can make per year. But, it shows that they have a double-standard when it comes to their political allies.

Corporate America has one set of very high standards applied (Like the bank CEOs) but anyone who espouses the leftist ideology of Barack Obama or Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid gets a much lower set of standards.

For example, Planned Parenthood, the abortion mill outfit that seeks to hide the rapes of 13-year-old girls, gets federal money just like the banking industry. But, the CEO of PP gets to make $1 million per year and has no limits put on his compensation.

Readers may be surprised to learn that Planned Parenthood nationally has plenty of money and taxpayers are contributing a large part of it. According to its own 2006-07 annual report, Planned Parenthood took in more than a billion dollars, and boasted a surplus of $80 million. One-third of its income–$336 million-came from government subsidies. Its president received about $1 million in compensation. Why pay more of our own money for practices that don’t work and some of which involve what most Americans consider to be immoral?

If PP gets one-third of their fundng from American tax dollars, shouldn’t their executives face the same compensations limits that are being applied to others that receive federal monies? That would be a fair application of a standard.

Once again, we can see exactly how hypocritical the Democrats are. One set of low standards for themselves and their allies, one set of very high standards for the rest of us.

The Fierce Urgency Of Pork: Charles Krauthammer Column Could Kill Stimulus Bill

This column is amazing. Not for what it says or who wrote it. But for the fact that it was published in the uber-liberal Washington Post.

Sometimes, someone writes a column that is so hard-hitting, so to-the-point that it cannot be ignored for long. You won’t hear about this column on any of the left-leaning television networks, but you should read it and take to heart what it says.

Charles Krauthammer writes:

“A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe.” — President Obama, Feb. 4. Catastrophe, mind you. So much for the president who in his inaugural address two weeks earlier declared “we have chosen hope over fear.” Until, that is, you need fear to pass a bill.

That’s just for starters. Krauthammer rightly asks about why we should be scared into passing this “pork spending” bill.

The column goes on to describe all of the unethical and outright illegal conduct that the Obama administration has been trying to legitimize, as exampled by Timothy Geithner and Tom Daschle’s tax avoidance problems.

And yet more damaging to Obama’s image than all the hypocrisies in the appointment process is his signature bill: the stimulus package. He inexplicably delegated the writing to Nancy Pelosi and the barons of the House. The product, which inevitably carries Obama’s name, was not just bad, not just flawed, but a legislative abomination. It’s not just pages and pages of special-interest tax breaks, giveaways and protections, one of which would set off a ruinous Smoot-Hawley trade war. It’s not just the waste, such as the $88.6 million for new construction for Milwaukee Public Schools, which, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, have shrinking enrollment, 15 vacant schools and, quite logically, no plans for new construction. It’s the essential fraud of rushing through a bill in which the normal rules (committee hearings, finding revenue to pay for the programs) are suspended on the grounds that a national emergency requires an immediate job-creating stimulus — and then throwing into it hundreds of billions that have nothing to do with stimulus, that Congress’s own budget office says won’t be spent until 2011 and beyond, and that are little more than the back-scratching, special-interest, lobby-driven parochialism that Obama came to Washington to abolish. He said.

Now, in the words of the racist Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s “chickens have come home to roost.” Clearly, Obama lied to America in order to get the votes. But what is really insulting here is that Obama expected to get away with it. Apparently, he expected America to forget about his promises and statments. Instead, Obama forgot about the Internet that he so masterfully used to come to power.

By the time the stimulus bill reached the Senate, reports the Wall Street Journal, pharmaceutical and high-tech companies were lobbying furiously for a new plan to repatriate overseas profits that would yield major tax savings. California wine growers and Florida citrus producers were fighting to change a single phrase in one provision. Substituting “planted” for “ready to market” would mean a windfall garnered from a new “bonus depreciation” incentive. After Obama’s miraculous 2008 presidential campaign, it was clear that at some point the magical mystery tour would have to end. The nation would rub its eyes and begin to emerge from its reverie. The hallucinatory Obama would give way to the mere mortal. The great ethical transformations promised would be seen as a fairy tale that all presidents tell — and that this president told better than anyone. I thought the awakening would take six months. It took two and a half weeks.

Two and a half weeks. That would make a great name if someone ever made a documentary about the disaster that Barack Obama is shaping up to be.

This column that Charles Krauthammer wrote is a classic for the ages. It is right up there with the fable about the emperor who wore no clothes.

Nancy Pelosi Takes A Page From Nazi Propaganda: Wants To Reduce Costs Through Contraception

The white-supremicist Margaret Sanger (founder of Planned Parenthood) would be so proud of Nancy Pelosi! Pelosi invokes “reduced costs to the states” as a reason for spending millions on birth control. (Never mind the fact that birth control is already inexpensively available at any corner drug store and taught about in public school sex-ed classes.) Exactly who is Pelosi targetting with her statements?

Well, basically, she was saying that fewer children meant more resources for everyone else!

Here is what she said on This Week with George Stephanopoulos:

STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus? PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government. STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that? PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.

You know, certain people throughout history made similar statements about such things. Here is one:

“Our starting point is not the individual, and we do not subscribe to the view that one should feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty or clothe the naked. -Joesph Goebbels, 1938

Goebbels certainly wanted to “reduce costs to the state” with his statement.

Others in the Nazi hierarchy went even further. Fritz Bernotat believed in the indiscriminate killing of “useless eaters.”

The above may be in the extreme, but Pelosi has certainly taken a step in that direction. I wonder whom Pelosi would think the “uselss eaters” would be? Which children does she believe are being born to the “wrong people?”

Pelosi’s quotes are a step in a direction that a certain government in Central Europe took back in the 1930’s. The journey that government undertook did not end well for the world.

James Pethokoukis, in a blog entry for U.S. News and World Report, excerpts the book Empty Cradle by Phil Longman. Here is the quote:

Population aging also depresses the growth of government revenues. Population growth is a major source of economic growth: more people create more demand for the products capitalists sell, and more supply of the labor capitalists buy. Economists may be able to construct models of how economies could grow amid a shrinking population, but in the real world, it has never happened. A nation’s GDP is literally the sum of its labor force times average output per worker. Thus a decline in the number of workers implies a decline in an economy’s growth potential. When the size of the work force falls, economic growth can occur only if productivity increases enough to compensate.

I thought the Democrats believed that our children were our greatest long-term investment. Apparently, only certain children are worthy of that investment and the potential parents of the others should simply relinquish their reproductive rights.

Democrats Force Higher Energy Costs On America: Ban Exploration Of Oil Rich Lands

Get ready for higher energy costs courtesy of the Democrat-controlled Congress. The Senate voted 66-12 to ensure that we Americans remain dependent on foreign oil to satisfy the needs of our economy. What is even worse is that now, we will be at the mercy of OPEC more than ever before in our history.

For those of you from Virginia, you’ll note that the very first legislative action of Senator Mark Warner was to ensure that we Virginians are paying higher prices for our energy needs. You’ll also noted that Jim Webb voted that way as well.

Writing for Town Hall, Amanda Carpenter has this to say:

The 1200-page, pork-laden, $10 billion proposal locks up millions of acres of energy-rich property by designating it as environmentalist-friendly “federal wilderness” area where not even as much as a bicycle would be permitted to travel across the land. Many of these areas recently became available when the ban on domestic drilling in Western states expired last fall and the liberal left couldn’t muster the courage to keep it in place due to rising energy prices. Now Democratic leaders are using different legislative strategies to put a new kind of ban in place.

The Dems have deluded themsleves into believing that some form of alternative energy is going to come to our rescue within the next four years. Don’t hold your breath over it. Oil is still the most economical energy source we have and no matter how much money we put into solar or wind or pixie dust, alternative energy sources will not be able to make up for the amount of energy we will be losing because of this land grab.

For example, one piece of the bill that has drawn the ire of the Wall Street Journal is a provision sponsored by Rep. Barney Frank (D.-Mass.). He’d like to make a robust, container shipping port located in his district’s Taunton River into a scenic tourist destination. This would have the liberally convenient side effect of killing a proposal to create a terminal to import liquefied natural gas.

Again, this will have the effect of forcing energy prices higher. But will Barney Frank, Jim Webb and Mark Warner care? No! They have all the perks they need as members of Congress and no reason to care about the needs of Joe and Jane Average American.

And no bill shoved through Congress using the new Democrat rules that bar Republicans from offering alternative legislation or bringing in testimony from opposing viewpoints would be complete without loads of pork.

Then, as to be expected in an omnibus bill, there’s the pork. California Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D.) is requesting $461 million to legally settle a dispute over the San Joaquin River with the environmentalist group Natural Resources Defense Council. The money would be used for a water project that has the “minimum goal” of restoring 500 salmon to the river. (That’s nearly $1 million per fish!) Montana Sen. Jon Tester (D.) wants $5 million to fund a “Wolf Compensation and Prevention Program” to assist property owners use “non-lethal” measures to prohibit wolves from killing their livestock.

Didn’t Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid promise fiscal responsibility when they took over in 2006? Weren’t they complaining that the Republicans were waiting resources and pushing energy prices higher?

The Dems lied to us back in 2006 and again in 2008. We are in for some very long years ahead, possibly even a new Great Depression and the Democrats will only have themselves to blame for it.

Nancy Pelosi Brings The First Vestige Of Change To Washington: Bans Republicans From Offering Alternative Legislation, Enables Back-Room Deals

Well America, you voted for change, and you are about to get it, although it is probably not the change you were hoping for. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has solidified her power in the House of Representatives by doing away with several rules that the Republicans brought to the chamber back in 1995. These rules were an effort on the part of the GOP to ensure that all elected officials who participated in the legislative process had a fair chance at making their voices heard.

Now, Pelosi wants to make sure that only the Democrats’ voices are heard and has cut the GOP and any other opposition out of the legislative loop.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office. … In reaction, the House Republican leadership is sending a letter today to Pelosi to object to changes to House Rules this week that would bar Republicans from offering alternative bills, amendments to Democrat bills or even the guarantee of open debate accessible by motions to recommit for any piece of legislation during the entire 111th Congress. These procedural abuses, as outlined in the below letter obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, would also include the repeal of six-year limit for committee chairmen and other House Rules reform measures enacted in 1995 as part of the Contract with America.

Pelosi’s new rules will make secret, back-room deals the norm again while removing any transparency that the GOP tried to bring to Washington back in 1995. Non-Democrats will not be allowed to offer dissenting voices nor will any minority party be allowed to offer alterntive legislation on major issues.

Reforms to the House Rules as part of the Contract with America were designed to open up to public scrutiny what had become under this decades-long Democrat majority a dangerously secretive House legislative process. The Republican reform of the way the House did business included opening committee meetings to the public and media, making Congress actually subject to federal law, term limits for committee chairmen ending decades-long committee fiefdoms, truth in budgeting, elimination of the committee proxy vote, authorization of a House audit, specific requirements for blanket rules waivers, and guarantees to the then-Democrat minority party to offer amendments to pieces of legislation. Pelosi’s proposed repeal of decades-long House accountability reforms exposes a tyrannical Democrat leadership poised to assemble legislation in secret, then goose-step it through Congress by the elimination of debate and amendment procedures as part of America’s governing legislative process.

Cleary, the Dems are the new Fascists in town.

Also, I wonder what the reaction from the Dems would have been if the GOP were in power and had done what Pelosi is doing.

You knew someone was going to say it. You knew someone was going to point out that the Democrats, despite their promise in 2006 of cleaning up the “culture of corruption,” have engaged in every bit as much corruption as they claim the Republicans have, maybe even moreso now that the Illinois Senate Seat scandal has broken. But, because of the hypocrisy that seems to be inherent in the Democrat party, nobody would admit to the wrongdoing or nor take any steps to clean up their own house.

And now, Rod Balgojevich has led those chickens home to roost. Michelle Malkin, writing for Townhall, gives us some great insight on the matter:

Democrats and the media can no longer rest on the old rationalization that Blago is an exception to the “we’re cleaner than thou” rule. 2008 was the year of Democratic Reps. William “Cold Cash” Jefferson, Charlie “Sweetheart Deals” Rangel, and former Detroit Mayor Kwame “Text Me” Kilpatrick. It was the year Democratic Massachusetts State Senator Dianne Wilkerson got caught stuffing bribes from an FBI informant down her shirt. It was the year 12 Democratic leaders and staffers in Pennsylvania’s state Capitol were stung in a massive corruption scandal involving cash, sex and abuse of public office. And it was the year of multimillion-dollar embezzlement scandals at Democratic satellite offices of ACORN and the SEIU.The Democrats have met the culture of corruption, and it looks like it ain’t just elephants among the jackasses soiling public office.

The Dems need to shut up about corruption in other people’s houses until they clean up their own. And given the wonderful start to the Obama Administration, they had better do it soon.

Sarah Palin, despite the insults and personal attacks thrown at her by those who are afflicted with Palin Derangement Syndrome or the insults hurled by those who can’t accept a strong, independent woman in politics, still gives one hell of a speech.

She addressed the Republican Governor’s Association recently and gave her remarks on the current political landscape and where we should go from here.

The Silencing Of The Opposition Is To Begin Almost Immediately

Reports are going around Washington D.C. that Barack Obama plans on putting Henry Rivera back as the head of the Federal Communications Commission and that this signals Obvama’s intention to silence any and all of his critics, especially those of us on the Internet and on Talk Radio.

This should be a major concern for anyone who believes in the rights guaranteed to us under the First Amendment. Henry Rivera is a huge champion of the mis-nomered “Fairness Doctrine” which would effectively snuff out Conservative Talk Radio and silence any Conservative dissenters.

According to World Net Daily:

If reenacted, the “Fairness Doctrine” would require broadcasts over the public airwaves to give equal time to opposing political views. For talk radio, which boomed after the law’s repeal in 1987 by building an audience devoted to conservative talk, the law’s return would decimate the industry’s marketability. Many fear the “Fairness Doctrine” would drive talk radio hosts – like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage – out of business. Brian Maloney of the blog The Radio Equalizer said in his post, “Meet Talk’s Executioner,” he believes Rivera will use his position to bring back the law for that very purpose. Rivera, according to Maloney, “is expected to lead the push to dismantle commercial talk radio that is favored by a number of Democratic Party senators. Rivera will play a pivotal role in preventing critics from having a public voice during Obama’s tenure in office.”

Although Obama claims to want a “diversity of viewpoints” coming through the airwaves, his actions suggest otherwise:

“Barack Obama has shown a stunning lack of tolerance for free speech throughout the course of this campaign,” said O’Leary. “His presidency, combined with supermajorities for Democrats in Congress, would almost certainly bring back the so-called ‘Fairness Doctrine’ and allow the Democrats to snuff out any broadcasters with whom they disagree.” Democrats in Congress have been more definitive in advocating the “Fairness Doctrine.” In June, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., affirmed her support to Human Events reporter John Gizzi. Speaking on Albuquerque station KKOB, Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., told host Jim Villanucci, “I would want this station and all stations to have to present a balanced perspective and different points of view, instead of always hammering away at one side of the political [spectrum].”

Look at what they did to Barbara West of WFTV in Orlando Florida after she asked a tough question of Joe Biden instead of throwing a softball as most of the leftist-media did for the Obama campaign.

This appointment will be very bad for those of us who believe in Free Speech and a Free Press.

A few years ago, the Democrats were telling us that “dissent is patriotic.” Now they have changed their tune and are saying that “dissent must be silenced.”

Change is truly coming for us.

Are You Better Off Than You Were Two Years Ago?

I’ve been away for a bit. I spent an extended weekend in Virginia Beach with my wife. This trip represents our “babymoon” since this will probably be the last time we have a chance to get away before our new baby is born in December.

Anyway, I know there is plenty out there to talk about right now. There is Troopergate and the fact that Todd Palin is refusing to testify. I applaud Todd for this. After all, we have already shown how Troopergate is nothing more than a partisan witch hunt. Todd did the right thing in saying “no” to the partisan efforts of Democrats Hollis French and Ken Elton.

Then there is the bailout being considered by Congress. It is becoming known as the “Mother of all Bailouts” and it is a very bad idea. It will allow companies and firms who engaged in bad business practices to survive those bad decisions rather than allowing them to fail as the market dictates and thus allowing companies and firms who practice wiser and sounder business policies to step in and take over. That is what should have happened.

But I think a good place to start this week is by asking the question: “Are you better off than you were two years ago?” I think we can all answer: “No.”

Ever since the Democrats took over Congress, they have done nothing but allow or cause more damage to the American people. How can I say this? Easy. Check out the most recent Mullings column by rich Galen:

Just to review the bidding. On January 5, 2007 (just about the time Nancy Pelosi and her cronies took control of the House): – The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at about 12,400. – The New York-based Conference Board said its consumer confidence index was at 110.3. – The Bureau of Labor Statistics had the unemployment rate at 4.6% – According to CNN gasoline a gallon of gasoline, in January 2007, averaged about $2.20.

That is where we stood. Now, this is where we are:

– Last Thursday at about 1 pm Eastern, the Dow had hit a bottom of about 10,500 before Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson and the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Ben Bernanke intervened. That is a drop of about 15% in the Dow from two years ago. – The Conference Board’s latest take on the pulse of consumer confidence had it at a very thready 56.9 in August – a drop of about 48% – The unemployment rate in August was reported at 6.1% by the BLS an increase of 33%. – Gasoline prices are at about $3.70 a whopping 68% jump.

So, why blame Congress rather than the Bush Administration? Because, Congress is supposed to have oversight power. But rather than use that power to tackle real problems head-on, the Dems instead used it for pushing their own agendas, trying to grab and consolodate power and trying to embarrass the President. All of this happened to the detriment of the American people.

In fact, Congressional hearings were held to determine whether or not Major Laegue Baseball players were using steroids at the same time as a housing and mortgage crisis was brewing. They’ve held vote after vote of resolutions to surrender in Iraq at the same time that energy prices were going higher and higher.

I don’t know very many Americans who are more interested in steroids and surrendering than they are in where they are going to live and how much it will cost to have transportation for their familes. The only ones I can think of at the moment are the Democrats in Congress.

So what changed in 2007 that helped to facilitate all of this? Read on:

Rep. Barney Frank (D-Ma) and Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Ct) took control of the House and Senate Banking Committees. Rep. George Miller (D-Ca) and Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Ma) took over their respective Labor Committees. Rep. John Dingell (D-Mi) and Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) became chairs of the Energy Committees.

If you read that closely, you will notice that all of the above chairmen have D’s after their names.

The Democrats have been more interested in wrecking President Bush’s foreign policy rather than working on the problems that they are required to work on under the Constitution. As a result, the American people have been suffering and will continue to do so as long as power-hungry Democrats who are willing to do anything, including hurting the American people, in order to gain and maintain power are in office.
