Is Sarah Palin At Least Close To Being Right About “Death Panels?”

In order to answer that question, we need to look into HR3200 and analyze what is written in the relevent sections that may pertain to Special Needs patients or the elderly and how those sections may be used to deny care to members of those groups.

Sec. 1177 on page 354 of HR3200 (America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009). The title reads: “EXTENSION OF AUTHORITY OF SPECIAL NEEDS PLANS TO RESTRICT ENROLLMENT.” That section essentially makes it legal to turn away patients like Trig Palin.

Sec. 1162 of HR3200, under which on page 335 the government will be empowered to approve treatments that are established by “outcome-based measures.” This loop-hole will be used to deny care to elderly and Special Needs patients as some of the measures considered will include “patient mortality and morbidity following surgery” and “health functioning (limitations of activities of daily living).”

Sec. 1123 that begins on page 424 of HR3200. Under that section on page 430 is written:

The level of treatment indicated under subparagraph (A)(ii) may range from an indication for full treatment to an indication to limit some or all or specified interventions. Such indicated levels of treatment may include indications respecting, among other items—

(i) the intensity of medical intervention if the patient is pulse less, apneic, or has serious cardiac or pulmonary problems;
(ii) the individual’s desire regarding transfer to a hospital or remaining at the current care setting;
(iii) the use of antibiotics; and
(iv) the use of artificially administered nutrition and hydration.

Although the above references subparagraph (A)(ii), subparagraph (A)(i) essentially gives the government control over any medical orders relating to the covered individual.

From what I’ve read of HR3200, Gov. Palin is closer to getting it right than any of her detractors are. In fact, I have yet to see any of her detractors actually reference anything in HR3200 to prove her wrong about the government possibly denying care to the elderly and Special Needs patients.

  1. I REALLY WANT TO SAY THAT SHE IS WRONG.

    BUT I’VE STUDIED THE BILL.

    “DEATH PANEL”
    “RATIONING BASED ON PRODUCTIVITY”

    ARE THERE … BY CONCEPT AND BY BUREAUCRATIC STRUCTURE BEING PROPOSED BY HR3200.

    MY PRESIDENT AND MY DEMOCRAT LEADERS IN THE SENATE LIED TO ME … BIG TIME.

    BUT …. RINOS LIED TO YOU BIGTIME TOO!!!

    WE’RE STILL EVEN.

    HR3200 SHOULD BE FULLY REVISED BASED ON SARAH PALIN’S SUGGESTED ISSUES/CAVEATS.

    THEY ARE CONCERNS OF AN ORDINARY AMERICAN MOM, LIKE MY DEMOCRAT MOM.

    GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!!!!

    SARAH PALIN, MY FAMILY (THOUGH WE DIDN’T VOTE FOR YOU AND MCLAME) THANKS YOU FOR THIS HUGE SERVICE.

    DON’T WORRY. WE DON’T BELIEVE IN ANYTHING THAT THE LIBERAL AND ATHEIST MSM AND HOLYWOOD PEOPLE AGAINST YOU.

    WE’LL GIVE YOU A SERIOUS LOOK NEXT TIME IN 2012 IF WE MEET AGAIN.

    IF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY DUMPS YOU, WILL YOU JOIN DEMOCRATIC PARTY, MS. PALIN?

    YOU’LL FIT WITH US. WE ARE A BIG TENT UNLIKE REPUBLICAN PARTY. NOT ALL DEMOCRATS PROMOTE ABORTION AND LOVE SOCIALIST VALUES, LIKE MY FAMILY.

  2. I MEAN, MS. SARA PALIN COULD REPLACE VP BIDEN NEXT TIME AROUND.

    I WANT TO SEE MS. PALIN AS VP OF MY PRESIDENT OBAMA.

    SHE’LL BE A GREAT ADVISOR TO THE PRESIDENT AND, HOPELY, SHE CAN SHIFT HIS VERY LEFTIST POLICIES TOWARDS THE CENTER.

    • She has extensive executive experience in the private and public sectors, why would she play second fiddle to someone who had never, as much as being in charge of a “bodega”, and is doing an awful job at assembling a group of misfits, crooks, racists and even ex cons to advise him?
      This administration is beyond advice having managed to acquire more debt than all presidents to date in less than a year, naming 36 Czars to circumvent the Congress approval of those individuals and aggressively trying to take over the health insurance, auto, banking and the entire finance industry while letting the ones who cause the Finance industry collapse in Congress still in charge of it?
      How do you justify the $60,000 a week in travel expenses to Pelosi and the defense of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae by Chris Dodd and Barney Frank in 2005 for their own personal reasons? Why would any decent person want to be part of those “teams”?
      How would you like to work for a totally inept person who while running for president of a country did not even find out the USA has 50 states and stated he had already visited 57 and had 2 more to go? Or from the third in line to the presidency Speaker Pelosi who claimed 500 million Americans would loose their jobs if the stimulus package did not pass and does not even know we have 300 million people in the USA and only half constitute its work force?
      It is sad that the people we pay to represent us could not even pass a citizenship exam…and yet they criticize Gov Palin knowledge of foreign policy. It is very fitting that our Harvard grad President has managed to make worse every foreign policy problem we had before while not ending any war, making us look weaker in the eyes of the world while not solving any of our domestic problems including unemployment, race relations and total mistrust of anything run by the Government
