Obama Met With Blagojevich On November 5th And Senate Candidate #5 Is Jesse Jackson Jr.

God I love the Internet! How quickly and easily information comes out about the hot topics of the day! Here we are, just one day after Rod Blagojevich got arrested for his Chicago-style corruption, we’ve got an ID on one of the players.

We also have information that Barack Obama was indeed “in contact” with Blagojevich about who would take the vacated Senate seat.

According to a November 5th story by Carol Sowers of KHQA Channel 7:

Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That’s one of Obama’s first priorities today.

He’s meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

There’s already been speculation about his selection…from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago’s south side who co-chaired Obama’s presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.

So, Obama’s comment about not being in contact with Blagojevich doesn’t seem entirely truthful anymore and it is becoming clear that David Axelrod did not “mis-speak” during an interview with ABC about Obama having talked with Blagojevich.

And we know who Candidate #5 is. Jesse Jackson Jr., one of Obama’s earliest supporters. Candidate #5 does not look good in the criminal complaint filed against Blagojevich by Patrick Fitzgerald.

“In a recorded conversation on October 31, 2008, Rod Blagojevich described an earlier approach by an associate of Senate Candidate Five as follows: ‘We were approached “pay to play.” That, you know, he’d raise me 500 grand. An emissary came. Then the other guy would raise a million, if I made him (Senate Candidate 5) a senator.”

According to the affidavit, it looks like Senate Candidate #5 was willing to pay $1 million for the Senate seat and Blagojevich was seriously considering it.

  2. Good catch, 84RULES!

  3. […] Axelrod “misspoke”..? Maybe not. You Decide! HAT/TIP to 84RULES today for a post on a November 5th story by Carol Sowers of KHQA Channel 7 has her saying that […]

  4. I heard that the report was removed because they COULDN’T confirm that the Nov 5 meeting every took place.

    • The November 5th Press Release from the Illinois Governor’s office says the meeting did take place.

Besides, if they couldn’t confirm the report, why did they wait over a month to pull the story? Shouldn’t they have held off publishing the story until there was confirmation?

Strange that they waited until now to do so. Pulling the story right after questions arose about Obama’s possible involvement in the scandal is quite the coincidence, wouldn’t you agree?

  5. Well the column is gone now and they have a release saying their story was wrong. But here is a press release from the Gov. own news release page….

    God Bless,

  6. How far back do we have to go to find a politician who isn’t corrupt in some way? The real problem is that we the people keep allowing this to happen in every part of our government. The corrupt people have control over what happens to the corrupt people, how does that make sense? They also have all the control over us. How much power do we the people have anymore? We’re all sitting here disgusted by all of this, maybe its time we should be doing something to fix it instead. Earmarks are another form of corruption if you really think about it. Tell me a politician who isn’t involved in some kind of earmark arrangement? We let them bargain for our laws, bargain for and with our money, bargain for our businesses and education, and even our lives when it comes to health care. It all goes to the highest bidder in the end, and we end up paying for it.
We need a newly structured government, and people who can handle the temptations that the current political field apparently cannot. How do we go about wiping our political slate clean and starting over? Look what it takes to become a politician in this country. Maybe that’s where the answer lies… maybe we need to change our requirements of our politicians, overall.
Does anyone know enough about our constitution, is there a way to oust them all and start over outside of a civil war?
Maybe that’s what its going to take to get this country up and running again… its time for the people to take back what is theirs. I know I am getting real tired of working my fingers to the bone so CEO’s can go on vacation with their bailout money, and so auto union workers can continue to make $25+/hr compared to my $8.
I wonder if I’ll go to jail now because I mentioned the idea of a civil war, lol. How would something like that even happen in this country anymore? The corrupt politicians have such a hold on us, anyone contemplating it would be in prison before they could even recruit anyone. They would be labeled as terrorists and killed.
How proud we are to be Americans, huh? All of this has made me take a lot closer look at other countries and their citizenship requirements. Let the corrupt gather in America together while everyone else inhabits the rest of the earth. If they’re all in one place together its easier for us to have the control.

  7. i’m hoping that Blagojevich will inspire Congress to finally grow a pair and uphold the American legal system (by putting this guy away for a long time)
